Autumnal Chinese Fusion Wedding | The Matara Centre wedding photographer
Capturing Lucy & Nixon’s two-part wedding celebration at The Matara Centre in the Cotswolds - this wedding brought together not only two families but two vibrant cultural traditions, creating a unique celebration that was as meaningful as it was beautiful. From heartfelt Chinese customs to an autumnal outdoor ceremony, every part of this wedding felt authentic & personal.
The Day Before: Chinese Ceremonial Traditions with Family & Friends
The festivities kicked off on Thursday with a dedicated day for Lucy & Nixon to honour some special Chinese traditions. It was a brilliant way for the couple to slow down, spend quality time with their closest friends and family, and enjoy some authentic pre-wedding moments together. The morning was relaxed, with family members and the wedding party all gathered to take part in and witness these meaningful customs.
Lucy & Nixon’s ceremonial day included the traditional hair-combing ritual, symbolizing the couple’s transition into a new chapter of life together. After that, they hosted a tea ceremony to show respect to their elders, a gesture that was clearly meaningful to everyone involved. We also had time for some portraits of the couple in their stunning embroidered Chinese outfits. These shots turned out beautifully against the tranquil gardens of The Matara Centre, capturing the essence of the day’s cultural significance.

The Wedding Day: A Fusion Wedding at The Matara Centre
By Friday, everyone was ready to celebrate Lucy & Nixon’s official wedding day! Since they had spent the previous day celebrating together, the vibe that morning was so relaxed—everyone already felt connected and completely in the moment, which made the day flow effortlessly.
The Matara Centre provided the perfect setting for their outdoor ceremony. Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, this venue is a serene blend of nature and artistry - bright autumnal flowers by Wren & May were woven into the decor, paired with elegant Chinese lanterns hanging by the koi pond. The mix of cultures here was seamless and was accentuated by the Matara’s grounds.
Just as Lucy & Nixon walked out of the main house for their confetti line, the weather decided to add even more drama to the day with a storm —talk about dramatic timing! But, as unpredictable as Cotswolds weather can be, we were rewarded with the most incredible sunset afterward, I couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop to capture those post-storm, golden-hour photos.
The evening carried on with emotional speeches, followed by a surprise performance from Lucy’s dad who sang a song written for Lucy. And then, the ceilidh dancing kicked off! Seeing everyone on the dance floor, linking arms and laughing together, was the perfect way to end such an unforgettable day.
