Unique, Alternative Wedding at Islington Town Hall & The Hackney | London wedding photographer

Sometimes you step into a wedding day and it feels like reconnecting with old friends. Emily and Will’s big day was exactly that vibe. From the moment I met them at One Hundred Shoreditch, where they were getting ready together, through their intimate Islington Town Hall ceremony, and all the way to tearing up the dance floor at The Hackney, their wedding was such a beautiful balance of epic celebration and relaxed in-between moments.

As they live in Canada now, their wedding day was an incredibly important moment of everyone they love coming together from all the corners of the earth, and the vibe was immaculate 😚👌🏻 It was so nice going through all their plans together and scouting locations prior to their wedding. seeing it come together on the day showed their personalities perfectly!

This was my first time at Islington Town Hall and it didn’t fall short. On top of that the surrounding streets are packed with awesome (and colourful) backdrops and it’s close to some amazing reception venues. After the ceremony, instead of racing off to a formal reception, they made a pit stop for coffee—an absolute staple for these two coffee lovers. Perfect, right? This made the day feel uniquely them and is the perfect example of getting couple portraits that reflect you and make great memories.

As we wandered through the vibrant streets of Islington for some couple shots, I couldn’t help but appreciate all the fantastic, colourful backdrops. It was the perfect playground for capturing genuine moments in a fun, modern way.

I talk a lot about making your wedding day & timeline work for you, but it can sometimes feel hard to pinpoint what that looks like in reality. Emily & Will put all traditions aside and made their day all about spending as much time together as possible, which made for the most relaxed morning, more flexibility and the flow of the day seamless.
• getting ready together making for some really nice moments before the ceremony & some couple photos
• a small ceremony with just family, at the stunning Islington Town Hall, meant that there was less pressure & the reception was extra special too
• going for coffee after the ceremony - Em & Will love coffee so it felt right to do something familiar after the ceremony

Emily & Will decided to ditch the traditional blueprint and create a day that felt more like a gathering of friends and family, focused on what mattered most—the time spent together. This approach allowed for seamless transitions throughout the day, making it not just a wedding, but an experience.
